    Purpose

    • To carry out professional duties and to have responsibility for an assigned class or classes.
    • To be responsible for the day to day work and management of the class taught and the safety and welfare of the pupils, during on-site and off-site activities.
    • To promote the aims and objectives of the school and maintain its philosophy and ethos.

    School policies and planning

    • Recognising that health and safety is a responsibility of every employee, taking reasonable care of self and other and complying with the Schools Health and Safety policy and any school specific procedures/rules that apply to the role.
    • Maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and where possible contributing to displays in the school as a whole ensuring compliance with the requirements of dyslexia friendly status.
    • Selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment.
    • Supervising and supporting the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers (unless an NQT yourself).
    • Taking an active role in collating a portfolio of evidence to support pay progression discussions at the end of the 2020-2021 appraisal round.
    • Undergoing regular observations and participating in regular in-service training (INSET) as part of the ‘Teacher Performance and Capability Policy’ and continuing professional development (CPD).
    • Proactively contributing to the school improvement plan and its translation into daily practice.
    • Ensuring that school policies are reflected in daily practice.
    • Supporting the Governors and the Senior and extended Leadership Teams in promoting the ethos of the school.
    • Promoting equality as an integral part of the role and treating everyone with fairness and dignity.

    Curriculum planning

    • Planning opportunities to develop the social, emotional and cultural aspects of pupils’ learning.
    • Participating in and organising extracurricular activities.

    Teaching and Learning

     

     

     

     

     

    • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes to ensure effective curriculum coverage and progression, breadth and balance for all pupils.
    • Identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes, with appropriate challenge and high expectations.
    • Maintaining, using and promoting recent relevant and effective teaching strategies including the use of clear teaching objectives in lessons and using appropriate teaching and learning methods and resources.
    • Organising and managing groups or individual pupils ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities.

    Assessment

    • Setting and marking homework in line with school policy, marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils’ progress and development including reviews for SEN pupils.
    • Monitoring pupils’ progress through marking and assessment, pupil tracking and the use of data.
    • Interpreting class data in order to inform planning, set appropriate targets and review the impact of interventions.

    Communication, Marketing and Liaison

    • Participating in departmental meetings, parents’ evenings and whole school training events.

    Pastoral System

    • Undertaking pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and supporting pupils on an individual basis as appropriate.
    • Managing pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour as required.
    • Communicating and consulting with parents over all aspects of their children’s education – academic, social and emotional.
    • Meeting with parents and appropriate agencies, contributing positively to the education of the children concerned.
    • Building cooperative relationships with parents and communicating with them on pupils’ learning and progress.
    • Carrying out ‘whole school’ duties such as pupil supervision at breaks and bus duties.

    Safeguarding

    • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for or come into contact with.
    • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
    • Be aware of, support and ensure equal opportunities for all.
    • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
    • Attendance.

    Additional Duties

    • To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive vision, mission and ethos and to encourage and ensure staff and students to follow this example.
    • To ensure all health and safety procedures are adhered to.
    • To develop extra-curricular opportunities such as clubs and visits to enrich the pupils’ educational experience.
    • To attend or ensure attendance of members of the department to key school events such as presentation evening.
    • To undertake any other duty as specified in the STRB not mentioned above.

    Due to the internal redeployment of the existing post holder, the Governing Body wish to appoint a full time permanent School Secretary to start as soon as possible.  Applications are welcome from people who:

    The Governing Body wishes to appoint a Faculty Leader for English and humanities to start in April 2020.

     

    Standards are high and the school uses Accelerated Reader and STAR Reader to motivate and assess pupils. There are two other specialist English teachers in the KS3 team with a wealth of secondary teaching expertise. There is an Assistant Faculty Leader for English and Humanities in KS2.The school is participating in a national programme to deliver ‘English Mastery’ and the successful candidate will benefit from this CPD and practice.

    MEALTIME SUPERVISOR (WITH SETTING UP)

    Walton Priory Middle School is seeking to recruit a reliable and enthusiastic mealtime supervisor (with setting up).

    The post is permanent and the hours of work are 11.45 to 1.45pm Monday – Friday, a total of 10 hours a week, term time only. Please see the job description for full details. Salary Point 2 actual salary per annum £4,138.00.
