Mrs Peach

Head of Humanities

Following a career of 25 years teaching predominantly at secondary schools, I am now in my second year as Head of Humanities at Walton Priory Middle School. My role combines two of my interests: teaching, and watching a child’s face light up as they learn something new or understand something that they couldn’t quite ‘get’ before, and Humanities, which tells us all about where we are and how we arrived here.

My degree is in History, and I have completed Leading from the Middle, a subject leadership course with the Historical Association. I have also worked on an NPQ for Literacy. I firmly believe in lifelong learning and regularly complete CPD through organisations such as the Historical Association and the Royal Geographical Society.

I like to attend events such as lectures from historians or literary festivals and can regularly be found visiting National Trust properties or wildlife centres.

I aim to pass my passion for ‘hands-on’ learning to the pupils, and I am looking to ensure that every year group has visits or activities to enhance the curriculum for both Geography and History, from river studies fieldwork to being battlefield detectives for a day. We also have workshops and speakers visiting school, and I run a Humanities Quiz Club.

Outside of school, my favourite activity is to spend time with my family, particularly my two children and our pets. I love to read, with crime being my favourite genre—although I also enjoy a History or Geography book too. I appreciate cultural activities, visiting museums or art galleries, seeing a show at the theatre, or eating out at a good restaurant. I enjoy being out in nature, walking, and visiting places such as the Jurassic Coast.
